He came for the cricket. He stayed for the espionage.

That’s not cricket!

Acting on reports received from military intelligence, police in Jalandhar, Punjab arrested one Khurram Shehzad Ali for gathering sensitive information’ about Indian military installations.

During preliminary interrogation, the police learnt that Khurram had come into the country around six months ago on the pretext of watching the Indo-Pakistan cricket series at Mohali and failed to return to his country. He was then involved in gathering information of military importance, an official release quoting the SSP said.

On his information, police arrested another Pakistani national, identified as Ali Mohammed alias Qasim Mata alias Mohd Saqlain from Rama Mandi chowk on Thursday. [DT]Thirty-four Pakistanis disappeared in India after the cricket series. Incidents such as this one come as timely reminders for the exercise of caution and vigilence while handling the matter of movement of people from Pakistan.
