Ceasing Fire

This just came in: Jamali has announced a ceasefire across the Line of Control in Kashmir. It fits what I wrote in my post. This is a time when good behaviour is the need of the hour for Pakistan. Moreover, ceasing fire now is making virtue out of a necessity as the winter snowfall closes the mountain passes to infiltrators almost up to February.

This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.

Still, this is a welcome move because its in the right direction. But its very important not to get carried away by this, because the underlying fundamentals in Pakistan have scarcely changed.

And by the way

(Jamali) said the problems between India and Pakistan should be resolved through diplomacy and politics rather than the media. He asked India to enter a peace dialogue with Pakistan for a lasting resolution of all problems including the Kashmir issue. The Daily Times

And he said this on a nationwide televised address!
