The General’s new clothes
It started as a small item in the press when Pakistan’s interior minisiter Faisal Saleh Hayat requested that General Musharraf continue wearing his military uniform even after December 31st this year for the sake of stability. Pakistan’s prime minister, Mir Zafarullah Jamali
rotundly rejected this statement suggesting that as a man of his word, Musharraf will shed his uniform as promised. But more pro-establishment politicians have backed Hayat’s call for Musharraf to retain his position as army chief (so that they can retain their positions in the big scheme of things), while Musharraf has gone into a huddle with the notorious Chaudhries of Punjab, who remain the political kingmakers in Pakistan.

It looks like it will be some time before the General will need to get his new (golfing) clothes.
