Kashmir’s politicians sing similar tunes

It appears that the two major political parties in Jammu & Kashmir are making similar noises - highlighting police atrocities and human rights abuses by security forces. The irony is that law & order is a state subject and both the National Conference and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) were in effective control of the police apparatus. A deeper irony is when Farooq Abdullah held forth against rigging of elections - especially when the current insurgency in the Kashmir Valley started when the polls were rigged in his favour !
This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.

But making these noises makes them sound increasingly like the Hurriyat ! This is the silver lining - if the political parties are able to steal a march over the election-fearing Hurriyat it returns Kashmir’s problems to the political domain. That’s good news.
