From Bangladesh to NE Asia, NE India

South Korea, of all places!

This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.

An upper-caste Hindu militant secessionist organization of the northeastern state of Assam - the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) - has reportedly taken up formal membership with the Pakistan-based Muttahida (United) Jihad Council (MJC) after years of dallying with the Pakistani military’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and the Directorate General of Field Intelligence (DGFI) of Bangladesh. The Dawatul Islamia of Korea, an anti-South Korean Islamic organization detected by the government in April, was confirmed to be a branch of an Islamic political party in Bangladesh.

Rep. Kim Jae-gyeong of the opposition Grand National Party (GNP), who revealed the presence of the group on Oct. 13, said yesterday the Dawatul Islamia of Korea was confirmed as the Korean branch of the Jamaat-e-Islami Bangladesh, a party espousing Islamic fundamentalism. The abortive shipment involved two important figures in the northeastern insurgencies: ULFA military chief Paresh Barua -reportedly in Chittagong during the off-loading - and the NSCNs chief procurement officer Anthony Shimray, who is based in Manila but had flown into Bangladesh via Bangkok around the time of the shipment. The original idea, according to JIR sources, was to transport the munitions to northeastern India via a route across northern Myanmar’s Kachin State. However, this idea was eventually shelved owing to security concerns over moving so large a shipment across territory where local Kachins were seen as pro-Indian.[Dak Bangla via Niraj]

Bangladesh cannot remain insensitive to the jihadi terrorist activities on its own soil much longer. If the Bangladeshi authorities continue to remain in denial, they may have to contend with more than just one government’s list of terrorists and their camps.
