Across South East Asia on Indian wheels

India-ASEAN car rally flagged off

This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.

About 250 participants have begun the ride that will take them over 8000km through terrain infested with rebels, insurgents, mosquitos, drugs, HIV/AIDS and of course, breathtaking scenery. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh flagged off the India ASEAN car rally in Guwahati today.

Except for two ambulances (which hopefully are not in the race) and three Toyota Land Cruisers from Brunei (which are), all the vehicles are made in India — supplied by Tata Motors and Mahindra & Mahindra.
