Ladies and gentlemen, the United Nations!

Yes, n’ how many deaths will it take till he knows; That too many people have died?

This is an archived blog post from The Acorn.

China and Russia blocked U.S. and European efforts in the United Nations Security Council to condemn Myanmar’s military-run government for its crackdown on protesters.

Envoys from China and Russia, which have economic interests in Myanmar and are among the few countries with influence over the government, said they didn’t think the situation was a threat to international or regional peace and security. That’s the threshold for greater Security Council involvement. [Bloomberg]

If the UN Security Council was a place for the permanent members to protect their own interests, the UN Human Rights Council is a joke. It has already deemed that disrespect for religion is a violation of human rights. And among the first countries it will report on is India. Myanmar, Sudan and Zimbabwe have until 2011 to face scrutiny.
